Good News From Iraq

I'm with Ace; pretty sad to be getting this information from a blog instead of all the so-called reporters who hide in the broom closet every time there is any positive reporting to be done from Iraq.

Here's the good news:  Apparently the ISF fought-off, literally, a large terrorist assault this past Wednesday in Mosul.
Read the details.

This was a significant showing for the ISF.  Congratulations to the Iraqi Security Forces and first responders; you did a great thing on Wednesday.  Keep it up and you might just recover your country.

It's The Border Patrol, Stupid

You know, I've been telling people for what seems like forever; that a fence is nothing but an exercise in cutting, digging, or climbing without guards.  None of the pro-fence loud-mouths EVER answer me the questions:  What good is a fence that is not protected?  Why are you wasting MY money on something that will surely be destroyed simply to make you feel better and "on-top and informed of the border situation"?  Read something from someone who might know something about it for once and then APPLY IT TO YOUR OPINIONS:

____________________
Hugh,

Hope you read this. I'm a Border Patrol Agent and have been assigned to Arizona (Tucson Sector) for [many] years. This is the busiest section of border in the nation. I have been shot at and assaulted with rocks, bottles, etc. more times than I can count. I'm not bragging, just trying to establish some credibility. Here are a few facts you should be aware of:

Fact: Fences are useless without Border Patrol Agents to patrol them. They don't prevent people from crossing, they merely slow them down. Fences are about certainty of arrest, not the physical barrier itself.

Fact: It takes one Agent per 1/4 mile to effectively control a section of border fence. Anything less and the fence(s) are ineffective. We see it every day; the bad guys get over, under, or through.

Fact: The U.S./Mexico Border is 1951 miles long. We need 4 agents per mile. We would need to deploy 7804 Agents per shift, 3 shifts per day. Total required manpower: 23,412 Agents per day. Projected BP staffing level:
18,000.

Fact: Fences are absolutely necessary ONLY in urban areas where Agents have only seconds to minutes to make an apprehension.

Fact: The BP will never have sufficient manpower to forward deploy agents every 1/4 mile across the border. Fence or no fence, potential terrorists, illegal aliens and drug smugglers will exploit the areas devoid of agents.

Fact: Forward deploying every Agent in the BP will leave coverage gaps. These gaps will be exploited. With all Agents forward deployed no Agents will be available to cover the gaps.

Fact: Huge tracts of the border are inaccessible because of environmental issues and/or terrain challenges

Solution: DEFENSE IN DEPTH.

1. Forward deploy Agents in URBAN areas supported by fencing and stadium lighting (See San Diego/Texas).

2. Deploy roving patrols to rural/remote areas where agents have hours to days to make an apprehension. These agents need support from sensors, drive-through barriers, ground surveillance radar, infrared/daytime cameras, UAVs, air assets, etc to create certainty of arrest.

3. Stand up permanent immigration checkpoints in Arizona on major routes of egress from the border. Support these checkpoints with sensors, radar, remote cameras, etc to mitigate illegal traffic attempting to circumvent it.

San Diego, New Mexico and Texas have employed this strategy with great effect; Arizona does not and is the weak link. Tucson Sector comprises 13% of the SW Border but accounts for nearly 40% of all BP apprehensions/illegal entries.

Give Arizona the technology, drive-through barriers, agents and permanent checkpoints (WHICH HAVE BEEN BANNED BY CONGRESSIONAL LANGUAGE FROM 1999-2006!!!!!) not 800+ miles of fence. It is a catastrophic waste of money.

Ask any BP Agent on the southwest border and they'll tell you the same thing.

Don't know if you reply to any of your Emails, but I would love to go into greater depth if you're interested, particularly regarding checkpoints in Arizona.

Thank you,

That email was sent to Hugh Hewitt, he re-printed it on his blog today.  Pay attention to the response times.  This is important for those who say just put up cameras and sensors where we have rural fencing.  I would also add that it can be hard to boost the number of Agents while Johnny Sutton is roaming the countryside in West Texas throwing them in jail at the behest of the Mexican Government.  You actually have to give the BP the power to enforce the law.  The problem with the so-called compromise bill: enforcement.  There are things there that read great on paper, the whopping fines on employers who break the law comes to mind from Title III, but where is the enforcement?  The people we pay to work on the border need to also be allowed to do their jobs, and forced to in places where they aren't doing their jobs.  Another one of my HUGE problems with all this is we have laws to protect the border; they are simply not enforced.

Update 5/20/07 4:20pm CST:
At the end of "Part 8", we get the bottom line:

Here we are at the end of the bill and there is in fact no language whatsoever pushing the border fence forward "notwithstanding any other law." -Hugh

Ron Paul At 0% - As He Always Has Been!

"Oh, and bad news for conservative pundit Andrew Sullivan who only four days ago said about Ron Paul, “The Internet polls show real support for him. Fox News' own internet poll placed him a close second, with 25 percent of the votes from Fox News viewers. We have a real phenomenon here.” The “real phenomenon” remains locked in the basement registering 0% support."  -Dean Barnett

As predicted by everyone with the slightest competence, and certainly as it should be.  Dean goes into more polling with those wacky and endearing candidates in a fun read.

To Ron Paul's minions:  Am I gloating?  No.  But, I told you so.  Now, can those of you who are not completely lost understand that you have no representation whatsoever in this fraud of a Congressman and candidateYou are going to go down, in one of the most historic and important elections in our country's history, as complete and total losers both actually and intellectually.  Though please, don't face facts; do what you always do: tell me just how wrong I am, give me a lecture on Colonial America, and support a candidate who is at 0%.  THE SAME 0% HE'S ALWAYS BEEN AT YOU POLL-STACKING HACKS!!!

A Closer Perspective

By "closer" I mean literally.  For anyone who stumbles across my blog, and normally pays attention only to national news and politics; I suggest you take some time to get a local perspective on the abomination otherwise known as the immigration compromise.  Here's Pat Gray's take with some good video of both Bush and Kennedy.  Enjoy.

The money-quote from Pat in reference to Kennedy:

"He's DETERMINED? So is Satan. We're supposed to fight BOTH of them. Why aren't conservatives in Congress DETERMINED to save America?"  -Pat Gray

That is singularly, one of the smartest things I've read on the issue.  I'm a sucker for direct statements.  Too bad Congress doesn't even know the meaning of the word "direct"; or "honest" for that matter.  Well done Pat.

U.S. Gives To Palestinian Murderers!

Bush not helping Israel at all would be better than this.  One of our closest and most important allies; and look at what they have begun to think because of what Bush is doing for Palestine.  Read more in case you forgot the last report.

On a side-note:  I have little doubt that Ron Paul the Jew-hater is on-board for once.  However, I do wonder what would hold more sway over the good doctor in this case... his anti-Semitic politics or his fear of the dreaded international bankers?

Now that I think about it; Yoni should be thankful he has Bush to deal with instead of Dr. Strangelove.

Details of the Compromise, Part 1

Hugh has printed off all 326 pages and is pouring over the details on the "triggers" now.  Here's what he has so far.  A quote from Hugh, emphasis mine:

"Section 601(h)(2), (3), (4), (5), and (6) lay out additional provisions concerning this huge --indeed almost certainly 90% plus?-- portion of the illegals currently in the country that are not subject to the "triggers," and even notes in subparagraph (5)  that if an illegal is arrested or detained prior to filing hisor her application for Z permit status, "the Secretary shall provide the alien with a reasonable opportunity to file an application under this section after such regulations are promulgated."  Unless the computer spits out a no within 2 days of submitting the application, the illegal gets probationary Z status --before even one more mile of fence is built or a workplace verification system is constructed."

Don't get mired in apathy with this one folks.  Follow the link and get educated about your immediate future.

Cornyn and Hutchison Are Hiding Under Their Desks

As many of you should know by now, Senators Cornyn and Hutchison, both Republicans from Texas, were in the amnesty compromise meeting Thursday that sought to destroy our country, a Republic that has stood for well over 200 years.

Apparently both of these cowards have stopped taking phone calls.  And Hutchison is responding, from what I can tell, with a form letter about the goodness of this amnesty bill when someone emails.  Being a constituent, I personally tried to call Hutchison throughout the day yesterday and could not get past the switchboard; the same goes for today.  Cornyn most likely isn't responding to at all.  I talked to a Cornyn staffer yesterday who outright lied and told me the Senator knew nothing about the compromise or border fencing or amnesty-lite whatsoever... even though he was personally in the compromise meeting at the time I was talking to his office.

I had been holding back a good deal of my criticism for Cornyn and Hutchison due to some of Cornyn's supposed work on freeing the wrongfully imprisoned Border Agents, not only from prison but from the clutches of Johnny "The Jailer" Sutton.  Why I've been holding back on Kay, I don't know.  She just hasn't been on my radar WITH THE WAR AND ALL; that, and she is so amazingly underwhelming as an elected official that I now question myself and my fellow Texans' wherewithal when we elected her.  I've seen balls of yarn with a higher understanding of security than HutchisonCornyn is a disingenuous man who cares more about his political cover at any given time than he does his country and those he represents.  It is my belief that the only reason these two were not at the podium with the other pigs on Thursday is because they have some inkling of political self-preservation left in them.

Every single politician in that room, including these two morons, should leave public office forever.  I don't mean impeached or brought up on charges.  They did however conspire in secret to undermine the very foundations of our country so I am saying that they should, of their own free will, tender their immediate resignations before boxing up their personal belongings and walking out the door for the last time to return home.  That simple; and certainly no biggie under the circumstances.  I'm hardly calling for anything uncalled-for.

Hunter Is Coulter's Candidate!

Ann Coulter has officially come out in support of Duncan Hunter for President; also my candidate.  You can listen to Ann's reasons in detail on The Dennis Miller Show from yesterday here.  The show you are looking for is:  5/17/07 Hour 2; it should still be near the top of the page.  Enjoy.  Ann Coulter truly is a national treasure.

Also, as a side note; Michael Savage on his radio show yesterday came out in full support of Mitt Romney and went so far as to decree that Mitt Romney will be the President of the United States in 2008.  A Romney/Hunter ticket would be just fine for me.  A distinct possibility of sixteen years of Duncan Hunter as a head of government, and first in line to the Presidency for the first eight.  We could do a great deal worse.

The Good and the Evil

"The image you see above is of the still-not-completely-written immigration bill that Senators Kennedy and McCain rushed out to embrace yesterday. Next to it is the Holy Bible. That should give you some idea of the bill’s scope and whether or not our Senators have actually read it."

"...money will inevitably find politics the way Ted Kennedy will inevitably find a bar."

"But here’s the good news. Thanks to the internet-led hue and cry that’s come forth, I agree with
the guy from NZ Bear: This bill is going nowhere fast. Even the most hide-bound Democrat (Hint: rhymes with “Schmarry Schmeid”) today realizes that immigration “reform” without real border security is a remarkably unpopular idea."

-Dean Barnett

Amazing really how one picture can stir so much.  Dean, as usual, has some excellent analysis on the politics surrounding the America-destroying amnesty and border security bill.

Stop and read the entire post.

The Republicans Who Turned On Us

Senator Arlen Specter R-PA

Rep. Jeff Flake R-AZ

Senator Lindsey Graham R-SC

Senator John Kyl R-AZ

Senator Mel Martinez R-FL

Senator John McCain R-AZ

Today,
these so-called Americans have turned your country over to the Third World by compromising "amnesty-lite" and an open border in a bill that will now head to the House.  A House no longer controlled by the GOP because of stupid and spiteful voters who stayed home in 2006.

As for the Republicans you see in the list above; 202-225-3121... knock yourself out.

As for the other Republicans in the Senate, again because that is exactly where this bill is heading very possibly within a month; 202-225-3121... save your country and demand your Senator filibuster this bill when it comes back if that is what it takes to keep it off the President's desk.  Now is the time to start emailing them as well.  I'm hearing dates that are a week or so away, so get to it.

It will not only grant a form of amnesty to about 20 million foreign nationals already in this country; the bill will also allow their very immediate family to come in as well.  Now, again I stress this; I want someone to tell me exactly who on Earth (literally) is not a son, daughter, or parent.  If they let the very immediate family members come in with these illegal foreign nationals, the number goes from 20 million to about 100 million at that moment.  That is anywhere from 50 to 100 million people who do not know English in any way, do not know our laws, and we will have no idea who they are or where they really came from.  Ever heard of a little town called
Islamberg?  Or how about the Fort Dix Six?  The people coming here to work from Mexico and South America are not nearly as big a problem as the one's not coming here from Mexico and South America.  Get it?

Update 5/17/07 11:32pm CST:
Three of the "Fort Dix Six" would get amnesty under this horrible bill.

Update 5/17/07 11:41pm CST:
“They say ‘it’s enforcement first’ and we know that it’s not, and so to the injury is added the insult that they believe we are stupid.” -Hugh Hewitt

Remember this when you call the Senate at 202-225-3121.

The Republicans Who May Have Turned On Us

Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, both from Texas.  Here's a quote from the Houston Chronicle's article today:

"Though the negotiators expressed confidence that their deal would be widely approved, there were signs that the agreement isn't universally admired.
Three of the negotiators — Texas Republicans Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn and New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez — were not on stage when the deal was announced.  Speaking before the deal was struck, Hutchison said her support was contingent on reading the entire bill, which has yet to be fully written. "It's going to be very important to me to have the written word to see exactly what is in the bill," she said.  Cornyn, who battled Democrats to stiffen enforcement, voiced displeasure today with the broad outlines of the deal."

This is distressing.  Hutchison's contingency is that she reads the entire bill?  Not that there is only 370 miles of fencing or that "amnesty-lite" is sprinkled throughout the whole thing???  Cornyn "voiced displeasure"???  If these two Senators do not filibuster this abomination; they will lose my vote.  Contact these two at 202-225-3121 now.

Senators Hutchison and Cornyn; you are done for in the GOP if you do this.

Senators and Bush Reach Agreement Today

Here is the article.

We're doomed.

Now, the only hope we have is a filibuster in the Senate.  This will fly through the House after the last election.   Your hope to kill this will rest in the Senate where it was birthed.  If this bill makes it to the President's desk we are done for as a country.

A reader, Virginia Patriot, wrote earlier to forget the Senators and call your Congressmen.  Maybe the reader was right.  I say go ahead and call your Congressman if it makes you feel better.  Knock yourself out.  We all know how the House GOP votes on border security... problem is that there aren't enough of them left after 2006.

As I've said before, this will move very quickly through the House and then we are right back at the Senate again.  Hutchison's lines have been tied up all day; Cornyn's are not.  Neither are Mitch McConnell's, our leader in the Senate.  202-225-3121.

I have a really bad feeling about this.  Bush is doing everything he can to make sure this bill reaches his desk.  It will be his legacy.  He pulled Chertoff away from Homeland Security to work with the Senate on this bill.  This is what the President has been working on since receiving your vote in 2004.
